The Land

My story begins here

I am Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG, and before I tell you how I am made, I want to take you to the place I call home.

My story begins in Tirano, in the heart of the Lombard Alps. A town embraced by the mountains, where nature and human hands have shaped a landscape unlike any other.

This is where Valtellina takes shape, between stone and light. This is where Eroico Rosso is born.

Tirano, Crossroads of the Alps

In Tirano, roads cross and stories meet. For centuries, the town has linked Valtellina with Valposchiavo, Italy with Switzerland, standing as a gateway between different Alpine worlds.

At the foot of the Bernina, merchants, travellers, artists, and pilgrims have passed through for centuries. Each has left a trace, helping shape the identity of a town with a long tradition of welcoming those who arrive.

Even today, Tirano retains its spirit as a crossroads. From here, the Bernina Red Train sets off towards the Engadin, winding through some of the Alps’ most spectacular landscapes.

A valley of stone and light

Valtellina stretches along the course of the Adda River, nestled between the Rhaetian Alps and the Orobic Alps.

On the slopes of the Rhaetian side, light meets the stone of the terraces. Warmth gathers through the day, gently accompanying the grapes as they ripen.

My identity is born from this delicate balance between altitude, exposure and human care.

A city shaped by history

Tirano’s medieval origins can still be traced through its streets, palaces and ancient gates.

In 1492, Ludovico il Moro had the defensive walls known as the Moresca built. The Milanese, Bormina and Poschiavina gates marked the entrances to the town and pointed the way towards Milan, Upper Valtellina and the Bernina Pass.

The Sanctuary of the Madonna di Tirano, Palazzo Salis, Palazzo Merizzi and the historic residences of the old town tell the story of a city shaped by centuries of encounters.

It is among these palaces and courtyards that Eroico Rosso comes to life.

Knowledge passed down through time

Wood, soapstone and the loom have shaped objects made to last: from pezzotti to lavecc and piode, all the way to traditional pedü.

The same care can be found in Valtellina’s culinary traditions and in the attention devoted to the vine. Gestures that reflect a way of life in the mountains shaped by ingenuity, respect and knowledge passed down through generations.

My story begins with all of this: a valley, a town, and the people who continue to care for them.
